Day 2 – Tuesday, July 6

Today our plan is to drive to St. Louis, MO.  We left the hotel in Tuscumbia, AL around nine.  Our first stop was to get gas and snacks.  This time the gas was even lower than yesterday at $2.75 per gallon.  We then set out for Missouri.  We left Alabama and drove through Tennessee, Kentucky and Illinois.  In Illinois, we were looking for some place to stop and eat lunch.  Jay saw a sign for Horseshoe Lake Nature Preserve.  We decided to stop there for and have lunch.  It was about two miles down a narrow country road.  But once we got there, they had picnic tables next to the lake.  The place was deserted.  We ate our sandwiches and then continued on our way.

I had to stop for gas again in Illinois.  This time it was $3.06 a gallon.  That was the most we paid so far.  We arrived in St. Louis around 5:30.  I splurged on the hotel.  We have a room at the Hyatt Regency at the Gateway Arch.  It is a corner room that looks out on the Arch and the Mississippi River.  We are on the 15th floor and have a great view.

After checking into our room, we walked down to the Arch and the river.  We then walked around looking for somewhere to eat.  Some of the restaurants are still closed due to the COVID pandemic.  We eventually went back to the hotel and ate at one of the restaurants there.
