Today is a travel day. We are traveling from Prague to Dresden Germany by train. Germany is a new country for us, it will be our first time in Germany. We started out by eating breakfast at the hotel. Then we packed up our suitcases and checked out 5of the hotel. I had the hotel staff call us a taxi to take us to the train station. Our train is not scheduled to leave until 10:25 and we got to the station early. I like getting to stations and airports early because I don’t like having to run to catch planes or trains. Jay would prefer not getting there that early.
After waiting a while for our train to appear on the train board, it finally showed up as being delayed 5 minutes. The 5 minutes quickly changed to 20 minutes which eventually became 30 minutes. There was a problem with one of the train cars. Finally, it was assigned a platform number of 6. To get to Platform 6 we had to get on an escalator and go down a level and then walk until we saw the number 6, take another escalator up and we were on platform 6. Both Jay and I each had a large suitcase and a small carryon sized suitcase so getting on escalators is not easy, but we managed.
We had to look for our train car and then we had two high steps to get onto the train. I got on first and Jay handed the luggage up to me. Then we had to look for our seat compartment. The seats were arranged in little rooms with 6 seats, 3 on each side. Jay and I were facing each other next to the door to the compartment. There was an older couple sitting in the two seats by the window and no one was sitting in the middle seats between us. Jay put the two carry-ons in the overhead rack, we kept the other two suitcases on the floor between us. The trip was scheduled to take 2 hours and 27 minutes, but I think it actually took longer. We had 4 stops along the way and then exited the train at the 5th stop in Dresden. After getting off the train, we were able to locate an elevator to take us down to the main floor where we exited the train station. We then went looking for a taxi. When you exit the train station you should turn left and then turn left again and you will see the line of taxis. We took a taxi to our hotel. The hotel is right on one of the Christmas Markets., You have to go into the building and take an elevator up 1 level to the reception.
We were given a room on the top floor. The room is very spacious and has 2 double beds, a desk, and a refrigerator. The bathroom is very spacious also, but it just has a shower. Jay and I took a nap before venturing outside.
When we got up from our nap it was dark and it was misting rain. We walked about a block where we found an area that had several restaurants. Jay picked one and we sat down. Jay had a chicken skewer and I had beef strips. After dinner we wandered back through the Christmas markets and walked a little ways before heading back to our hotel.
