Today, we are driving from Rome, GA to Owensboro, KY. We take back roads and avoid highways, so the drive takes longer than if you traveled on the interstates. It took us about seven hours. Some of the roads had pretty scenery. Some of the roads were pretty deserted. We had great weather, no rain. We brought things with us, so we could make sandwiches for lunch. Jay found a little park, where we stopped and ate lunch. Except for the maintenance workers who were mowing, we had the park to ourselves. The park also had restrooms.
After lunch, we continued on our way to Owensboro. We arrived at our hotel around five. I chose a hotel that was located on the river. They have a nice park area called the River Walk along the waterfront. It has pathways, fountains, benches and bench swings. There is a great play area for kids, with slides and things to climb on. They also have fountains for kids to play in. There are also restaurants. And it is smoke free. We enjoyed walking around the park.
We returned to our hotel and ate dinner in the hotel restaurant. Jay had the grilled salmon and I had the fish and chips.
Tomorrow we are headed to Chicago.
