Today, after eating breakfast at the hotel, we stopped at a German bakery. They had some interesting looking chocolates. We then left Ashland. We were taking the River Road west. We stopped at the Houghton Falls Nature Preserve and decided to walk down to the falls. It is ¾ of a mile each way. Hiking to the falls was not too bad because it was mostly down hill. We did not see the falls, because it had been too dry. We did get some beautiful views of Lake Superior. Hiking back to the car was harder because it was uphill. We then continued on our way.
Our next stop was the Siskiwit River Preserve. They also had some falls, but it was close to the parking area. We also decided to eat lunch while we were stopped. Then we continued on to Duluth Minnesota. We turned north and took a pretty road along the shore for about 30 miles. We eventually reached Grand Marais where we were spending the night.
The hotel had sent me a text saying what room we would be in and that the key would be in the door. It was and we settled in for the night.
