Today we are flying from London to Athens.  Our plane is scheduled to leave at 9 AM.  Because they say you should arrive for international flights three hours before your flight, I thought we should arrive at Heathrow at 6.  There is a bus that runs from our hotel to terminal 5 that leaves at 5:33 AM and takes 27 minutes.  That meant we needed to get up at 4:30 AM to catch the bus.  We went to bed the night before at 9 PM which made it easier to get up.  Instead of taking the bus, there was a taxi waiting and it took us to the airport.

We already had our boarding passes, but we had to drop our luggage which is a self serve process at Heathrow.  After dropping the luggage off, we  headed for the security.  We mistakenly went through the fast track door.  There was no line, so the security officer let us go on through to the x-ray.  My carryon bag was flagged for extra scrutiny.  Of course, there was nothing in there that was concerning.  We then found a restaurant to eat breakfast.  After breakfast we waited until time to board our flight.  Our plane was delayed taking off for 50 minutes, which put us later getting into Athens.

When we arrived in Athens, we had to wait in line about 30 minutes to go through Passport Control.  Then off to pick up our luggage.  Jay found his luggage pretty quickly, but mine did not come out on the belt.  I was beginning to get worried that it was lost when we walked around the luggage carousel and found it laying on the floor.  I don’t know if someone took it off because they thought it was theirs or maybe it just fell off the carousel belt.

Our driver was waiting in the Arrivals hall to take us to our hotel.  When we arrived at our hotel, our Double room was upgraded to a Family room, which gave us two bedrooms.  That’s great, Jay can have his own room and I can have mine.

After a short nap, we went out exploring and to find somewhere to eat dinner.  While we were eating dinner, I noticed two motorcycle policemen questioning and searching a man.  They eventually let him go.  After dinner, we walked around some more and I saw the cops searching and questioning more people.  then we headed back to our hotel room.
