This morning we woke up at 8 and got dressed. We decided we did not want to eat at the hotel, so we found a restaurant nearby at another hotel and ate breakfast there. I had the scrambled eggs with bacon on sourdough toast. Jay had the same, except he got salmon instead of bacon. After breakfast, our goal for the day was to visit the Acropolis. The temperature was on the cool side, probably around 68 F. It was a little over 1/2 a mile uphill. Part of the way was up a bunch of steps. I did not know that Athens had that many steps. I am 68 years old, overweight and out if shape, but I made it to the Acropolis. I had purchased our tickets online so we only had to stand in line to go through the gate. The line moved pretty quickly. Then we started the walk uphill. There were some more steps. It probably warmed up to the mid 70’s while we were there, but there was a breeze so it wasn’t too bad. I was able to make it to the top. When I needed to I stopped and rested. This gave Jay plenty of time to take his pictures. We probably spent 2 hours there. There were several groups of school age kids on a field trip while we were there. I would highly recommend going in April or May before it gets too hot in the summer months. There is no shade at the top and I could see it getting very hot.
After leaving the Acropolis, we went to the Roman Agora. I had purchased the combo tickets so it was included. We walked around there for a few minutes. I was in really bad need of some water. I tried finding a mini mart, but it wasn’t where Google maps said it should have been. I found a place to sit down and sent Jay in search of water. He eventually came back and said he had found a market. We headed there immediately and purchased two waters for 0,34 euros for both. Very cheap. We headed back to the hotel to rest up before heading out later for dinner.
When we go looking for a place to eat dinner, Jay will pass up a bunch of places before finally deciding to look at a menu to see if he will like the food. I have not figured out what his criteria is, but I know he doesn’t like crowds. Jay had the beef and I had chicken. then back to the hotel./
