Jay and I have embarked on another adventure. We are traveling to Switzerland for 2 weeks and are renting a car and doing the Grand Tour of Switzerland. I found the tour by looking at the official Swiss tourist website. It looks like it will be a lot of fund.
After dropping our our 2 dogs and one cat off at their various kennels, we drove to Jacksonville. SInce I was using miles to purchase our airfare we decided to fly out of JAX since it was the closest airport. We drove over and spent the night in a hotel, so we wouldn’t be rushed the next morning. When we woke up on Thursday morning, I had a text from Delta saying our 11;25 flight had been cancelled and we were rebooked on a flight leaving at 4:00 that afternoon. I did not want to be leaving so late, so Delta’s website said I could change the flight, if I found another one I preferred. This flight left at 12:55 with stops in Atlanta and Amsterdam. We were to arrive in Zurich about 30 minutes later than our original flights.
The flights were OK. There were no problems. When we arrived in Zurich, we had to find the customer service center to pick up our travel wifi device. After that we were using the hotel shuttle bus company, Check-in All Ways to get to our hotel. It was 37 Swiss francs (CH) for two people. There were only another couple on the bus with us. They were dropped off first. Then we were dropped off. Because the narrow roads were blocked, the shuttle driver could not stop directly in front of our hotel, he had to stop about a block away, but he carried our bags to the hotel door for us.
We were staying at the Helmhaus Hotel. Our room was not ready, yet because we were early, but they allowed us to leave our bags. I asked for directions to a restaurant so we could eat lunch. They gave us directions to an Italian restaurant. The clerk even offered us the use of her umbrella, because it was sprinkling rain. We walked to the restaurant and had lunch. Jay had the margarita pizza and I had spaghetti bolognese. IT was very good. We both ordered cokes to drink. I have to get used t the European way, where they bring you a small bottle of coke instead of the American way which comes out of a machine and you get free refills.
After lunch, we walked around some looking at the sights, before heading back to the hotel. Our room was ready by then. It was on the 5th floor and had two twin beds in the style the Europeans use with them pushed together, but with separate bedding. We were tired after our long flight, so we took a three hour nap before heading back out for supper. Jay had a hamburger and I had Chicken wings.
After supper, we went looking for a grocery store and was able to find one. We like to buy water or cokes and maybe a snack at the grocery store, because it is usually cheaper that the hotel minibar. Next we headed back to our hotel to turn in for the day.
