We are spending all day today in Olympia. This morning we got up and ate breakfast. After greakfast, we headed to the Archaeological Site of Olympia. When we got to the site, I was told by a police man that I could not park at the site because the bike race was finishing up there. He said if I drove up the hill and parked on the next block it would be OK. After parking the car, Jay and I walked back down the hill and visited the site.
This is where the first Olympia games were hele in the 8th century. It is a very large site. They still light the Olympic torch here that is carried to the city that is hosting the summer games. It is a pretty impressive place.
We walked back to our car to head back to our hotel and eat lunch. Again, we had avoid the streets that were blocked off. We were able to find a parking space at our hotel. We walked to a restaurant that was where the bikers would be coming by. We ordered lunch and waited for the racers. They came by about 30 minutes after we sat down. The support vehilcles did not come down the road after the racers, they were directed to turn onto another road. This was the last leg of the race so we should not have to contend with any more closed roads due to the race.
After lunch we went back to the hotel. I wanted to watch King Charles III of England coronation. I was able to watch it on my computer in English. It was several hours long. Jay did not care to watch, so he went shopping.
After the coronation, it was time for dinner. So we found a restaurant to eat. I tried dolmadakia or stuffed grape leaves. I did not really care for them. They were stuffed with a rice mixture and spices. They had an odd lemony flavor. I just felt like I should try something Greek.
Oh well tomorrow’s another day.
