Volos

Today, we are leaving Thessaloniki and driving to Volos.  It is a beautiful day to be driving.  We packed up the car and left the apartment and headed out of town.  Our first stop is the Byzantine Castle of Platamon.  It is over an hour away.  The drive was pleasant.  We found the parking lot and followed the path up the hill to the castle.  It was 3 Euros a person.  Even though, I am over 65, they will not give me the senior citizens discount because I am not from one of the European Union countries.  The outside wall of the castle is pretty much intact.  We walked all around the castle.  After we had finished exploring it, we walked back down the hill to our car.

Our next stop was lunch.  Jay found a restaurant fairly close to the castle which had a beautiful view of the beach.  Then it was on to the next stop, Holy Shrine of Saint Paraskevi.  This was only about 30 minutes away.  Again we had to park the car and walk.  This time the walk took you down several stairs, then up an incline to a bridge.  You needed to walk across the bridge to get to the Shrine.  We looked at the Shrine and then left.  We were finally headed to our hotel.

We arrived at the hotel around 5 and checked in.  We have a nice balcony that overlooks the pool area and the mountains.  The pool is closed until June when the summer season begins.  It was too cool to go swimming today anyway.

The hotel has a restaurant and a gym.   Jaychecked out the gym, first thing.  Then we walked to the restaurant for dinner.  We were the only ones in the restaurant.  We ate around 6:30, but in Greece they usually eat much late like at 8 or 9.  After back to our hotel to relax.
