This morning we took the hotel shuttle at 7:30 to the airport. Our plane was not due to depart until 10:30, but I like giving myself plenty of time. We checked in at the airport and got our boarding passes. Both Jay and I got TSA precheck which is a breeze. you don’t have to take off shoes or jackets, or take things our of your carry on bags like laptops. We made our way to our gate, but decided to stop and eat breakfast at a restaurant since we had plenty of time. Our gate was right across from the restaurant. We were in one of the last groups to board and there ended up being an empty seat between Jay and me. Every one was boarded and we sat and waited and waited. Finally the pilot came on and said there was a problem with the ventilation duct and maintenance was working on it. Finally after an hour and a half we were ready to take off, immediately after takeoff we were fed our first meal. Jay and I both had the chicken and rice with a salad and a roll. Midway through the flight we got half a ham sandwich, vanilla gelato and some type of rice chips, then right before we landed we got another meal. Jay and I again chose the chicken and rice.
We had no problem going through immigration and customs. We picked up our bags and then found a currency exchange to get Japanese Yen., Our next stop was finding the post office to pick up the wifi device. we had to go back to the first floor. I found a map which had the exact location. Then it was down to the basement to trade in the JR Passes While we were there we purchased two suica cards and the tickets for the Nex express.
We took the Nex Express from the airport to the Shinjuku station. From there we took a taxi to our hotel, Because it had been a long day, we decided to stay in.
