Today we are traveling to Lisbon. After eating breakfast and checking out of the hotel, off we went. It is only about three hours. Along the way I saw a sign of a church at a small town called Castro Verde. We decided to take a detour and check it out. After driving through the narrow city streets, we found the two churches. Both churches were plain outside, but when you walked inside, the walls were covered in the blue and white tiles from the Dutch influence. The ceilings were curved and painted in murals. They were worth the trip.
After walking around a bit, we continued into Lisbon. We arrived around two. One the way to our hotel, I was trying to turn left. You were supposed to go on the right side of the small traffic island, but there was a cement mixer coming that way, so I was going to go to the left, because nothing was coming and it would just be foe a second in the wrong lane. But there was a policeman standing there and he was not having it. He kept blowing his whistle and pointing to the right side of the island. I kept pointing toward the cement mixer. Finally after him blowing the whistle and pointing and me pointing, I backed up and went his way, which really did not make any sense. We located my hotel pretty soon after that.
The hotel has a parking garage which we pulled into and tried to find a parking space. Going down into the garage there were some narrow corners where I had to back up to make it around the corner. There was one parking spot that was next to a post that I was never going to get in. I saw a lady leaving so I took her spot. Jay and I then watched another lady back in to the spot that I could not get into. My advice to you, if you come to Portugal, is to practice your parallel parking and driving through narrow alleys and making sharp turns.
We went upstairs and checked into the hotel. The hotel looks plain from the outside, but inside it is very modern. We have a twin room and when you enter there is a Hugh open closet with the mini refrigerator. Then you walk into the sleeping area to your left is the toilet and shower area. There is a sliding door to the toilet and it is a large room. Then you have this huge open area where the sink is and makeup area. At the other end is the shower room. Yer I called it a room. It also has a sliding door and the rain shower is at one end. The only bad thing is, there is no way to close off this room from the sleeping area.
After getting our luggage , we walked across the street to eat lunch. Then it is time to start exploring. We walked all the way down to the ocean front. Then we walked back to our hotel to rest for a bit. At 7:30, we went looking for a restaurant for supper. We settled on Italian. After supper we walked back to our hotel.
