Following History: A Visit to the Battle of Hastings

Today was Jay’s day to decide what we were going to do. He wanted to visit the site of the 1066 Battle of Hastings. He located it in our English Heritage guidebook and found that it was three hours away. After breakfast, we set off for Battle in Sussex. We were able to find it and find parking. We walked throughout the abbey and along the walkways where the battle was fought.

Afterward, we were pulling out of the car park when I heard what sounded like a marching band. I looked up, and on the street we were about to pull onto, there was a parade going by. There was a marching band followed by many children who appeared to be dressed in Girl Scout or Boy Scout uniforms. I turned off the car, and we watched the parade go by. It only lasted a few minutes.

After the parade was over, we were able to leave. Next, we drove to Pevensey to visit the castle there. We walked all through it. By then, it was time to head back to Cheltenham. That night, we chose an Irish pub to eat at. I had a hamburger, and Jay had a chicken sandwich. Tomorrow, we will turn in the car and head into London.
