[dropcap custom_class=”whb”]Today was another beautiful sunshiny day in Iceland.   We headed to the Mŷvatn area.  On the way we stopped at Mt. Nȧmafjall, an area of steam and mud springs.  The mud craters was very large and you could see the mud which was grey in color bubbling up.  You could also really smell the sulfur in the air.  The steam springs were covered with rocks and you could see the steam rising up for miles.

Next we drove to Dimmuborgir.  This area is believed to have been formed in an ancient pond of lava which emptied after the lava had solidified.  This left tall lava structures that form a variety of interesting shapes.  There is also a cave called Kirkjan or Church because of its vaulted entrance.  According to Icelandic folklore, this is the spot where the earth connects with the underworld.  We took the path that was 2.5 km  because I wanted to see the cave.  Parts of the trail was covered in snow.  But we made it to the cave and climbed up to look in it.  This place was very beautiful and peaceful.  Even though there was snow on the ground it did not feel that cold.

]We ate supper at the Vogafjὁs Restaurant.  This restaurant has a cow barn attached to it and you can eat dinner and watch the cows eat or get milked.  They make there own cheese, bread and cakes.  I tried the Geysir bread ice cream for desert.  It was not as rich as the ice cream I am used to having and it had a different consistency.  But it was still good.
