This morning, we got up around 7:30 got dressed and went down and ate breakfast. We packed our suitcases because we were checking out of the hotel to travel to Glasgow. Our train tickets were already booked and on my phone. We were to leave out of Edinburg Waverley station which is about a 7-minute walk up a slight hill. We decided to take a taxi. The taxi arrived after a few minutes, and it was a very short ride to the station. I had brought some British pounds I had left over from our last trip to the UK and was going to use that to pay him. He said it was not good any longer, that they had changed their money and that no one would take the bills I had. He said to go by a bank, and they should exchange them. So instead, I paid him by credit card. We entered Waverley station and took the lift down to the platform level. Our train for Glasgow was leaving at 9:57 from platform 13. We found the platform and had a short wait for the train. The train was not crowded, so we were able to seats and put our luggage near us. The train ride was 1 hour 12 minutes and had 6 stops. The train ride was uneventful.
Our hotel is Glasgow, is about a 5-minute walk from the train station (Glasgow Central). We were able to check in and go to our room. The room is bigger than last nights. It has a double bed and a twin bed. A nice size TV, a desk, table and chair. The bathroom has a shower, toilet and sink. The view looks out over the river.
After getting settled in our room, we went to find the Bank of Scotland to exchange the worthless money. The clerk told me that they could not exchange it, but the bank across the street would. We walked across the street to the HSBC bank and was told by their clerk that they could not exchange it be we could walk down the street to the Post Office, and they would make the exchange. The Post Office was located inside a convenience store and the clerk said we had to go to a different Post Office located on West Nile Street and wrote down the address for me. At this point, I told Jay that we would wait and try to get to that Post Office tomorrow. It is not a lot of money, so if they don’t exchange it, it is not a big deal.
We decided to buy tickets on the City Sightseeing Hop On Hop Off bus. The HOHO bus has a Red route and a Yellow route. The bus we got on was the Red route. We rode it for a while until we could switch to the Yellow route. The Yellow route had a stop at the Celtic club stadium. Jay wanted to see the stadium, so we got off at that stop and then had to walk down a hill and then around to the stadium. He bought a shirt. We walked through the parking lot to get back to the bus stop, As soon as we got on the bus, it started raining. We stayed on the bus until we came to a stop that was close to our hotel.
Since it was raining, we decided to order in for dinner. Jay picked an Indian restaurant. the food was OK,,but they did not include any utensils. after we ate, it had stopped raining, so we decided to walk to a small grocery store nearby for some snacks. Aftre that we decided to call it a day.
