This morning, we got up around 7:30, got dressed, and went downstairs to eat breakfast. We packed our suitcases because we were checking out of the hotel to travel to Glasgow. Our train tickets were already booked and stored on my phone.
We were leaving from Edinburgh Waverley Station, which is about a 7-minute walk up a slight hill, but we decided to take a taxi instead. The taxi arrived after a few minutes, and it was a very short ride to the station.
I had brought some British pounds left over from our last trip to the UK and planned to use them to pay the driver. However, he told me the bills were no longer valid because the currency had changed and that no one would accept them anymore. He suggested going to a bank to exchange them. So instead, I paid him with a credit card.
We entered Waverley Station and took the lift down to the platform level. Our train to Glasgow was scheduled to leave at 9:57 from Platform 13. We found the platform and only had a short wait before boarding. The train was not crowded, so we were able to find seats easily and keep our luggage nearby. The ride lasted 1 hour and 12 minutes and included six stops. Overall, the train trip was uneventful.
Our hotel in Glasgow was about a 5-minute walk from Glasgow Central Station. We were able to check in right away and go to our room. The room was larger than the one from the previous night. It had a double bed and a twin bed, a nice-sized TV, a desk, and a table with a chair. The bathroom included a shower, toilet, and sink. The view overlooked the river.
After getting settled in our room, we went to find the Bank of Scotland to exchange the old money. The clerk told me they could not exchange it, but that the bank across the street could. We walked across to the HSBC bank, but their clerk also said they could not exchange it. However, she suggested we go to the Post Office farther down the street, where they would likely exchange it for us.
The Post Office we found was located inside a convenience store, and the clerk there said we needed to go to a different Post Office located on West Nile Street. She wrote down the address for me. At that point, I told Jay we would wait and try again tomorrow. It was not a large amount of money, so if they could not exchange it, it would not be a big loss.
We decided to buy tickets for the City Sightseeing Hop-On Hop-Off bus. The HOHO bus has both a Red Route and a Yellow Route. The first bus we boarded was on the Red Route. We rode it for a while before switching to the Yellow Route. The Yellow Route had a stop at Celtic Park stadium. Jay wanted to see the stadium, so we got off there and walked down a hill and around to the stadium entrance. He bought a shirt while we were there.
We walked through the parking lot to return to the bus stop. As soon as we got on the bus, it started raining. We stayed on the bus until we reached a stop close to our hotel.
Since it was raining, we decided to order dinner in. Jay chose an Indian restaurant. The food was okay, but they did not include any utensils. After we ate, the rain had stopped, so we decided to walk to a nearby grocery store to buy some snacks. After that, we decided to call it a day.
