Today, Jay and I ate breakfast and checked out of the hotel. We had the receptionist call a taxi to take us to the car rental place. The car rental location we chose was near the Glasgow airport. We arrived early, so we did not have to wait. We rented a small automatic SUV, which turned out to be a hybrid. It took some time getting used to driving on the left-hand side of the road, and I did sideswipe a parked car with my mirror. Fortunately, it did not damage my car. I also spent a lot of time driving too close to the edge of the road.
Our first stop was Hunterston Castle, the ancestral home of the Hunter Clan. We were given a private tour of the castle. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the castle’s history. It was very interesting to hear stories about the various members of the Hunter Clan. The castle itself was not very large, but it was three stories tall.
After visiting the castle, we stopped at Newark Castle and toured it as well. It is home to the Maxwell Clan and is currently owned by Historic Scotland.
We had planned to make several other stops, but we either could not find them or there was nowhere to park. So, we decided to head to our hotel in Oban.
