This morning, we got a late start. We made our way down to Powell and Market to get CityPASS booklets. They gave us unlimited rides on the municipal bus system and the cable cars. We also received admission to a couple of museums and a boat ride around the bay.
We found the kiosk and stood in line to get the CityPASS. When we got up to the window, the clerk only had one left. We then had to go downstairs to the visitor center and stand in another line to get the CityPASS. After that, we got in yet another long line to ride the cable car. We wanted to take the cable car to Fisherman’s Wharf.
After waiting in line for what seemed like forever, we were finally getting close to boarding when the cable cars stopped running. There was a van on the track up ahead, and they were waiting for the driver to come back and move it. Finally, the cable cars started running again.
We had to sit inside, but that was fine with me. At that point, I just wanted to sit down. Off we went. At the different stops along the way, more people got on, so by the time we reached the end of the line, the cable car was jam-packed.
We ate lunch at a seafood restaurant. Jay had roasted chicken, and I had a shrimp sandwich.
After lunch, we continued walking and found a shop filled with neat kites. We bought one that looks like a hot air balloon. Then we made our way to Aquarium of the Bay. We watched the two movies they were showing in 3D. One was about turtles, and the other was about sharks. After watching the movies, we walked through the aquarium.
Then we walked back to the first cable car stop. The line was so long that we decided to walk to the next stop and board there instead. There was a line at that stop too, but it was much shorter. The wait was still very long, though. We were able to get on the second cable car that came by. We had to hold onto the posts because no seats were available.
Then we started looking for somewhere to eat supper. The first place we tried had a 40-minute wait. The next place had a 30-minute wait. We finally saw Morton’s Steakhouse and went in. It had an hour wait, but they said we could sit at the bar and eat dinner without waiting.
Jay and I chose that option, even though neither of us drinks alcohol. Jay ordered chicken, and I had the filet mignon. They also brought bread, and we just drank water. I did not realize how thirsty I was until they handed us the water. The meal came to $76, and we did not even have any alcoholic beverages.
After dinner, we walked back to our hotel. I should add that there is a very steep hill that we have to walk up.
The weather today could not have been better. It was in the low 60s and sunny — great weather for walking around.
