San Francisco: Day 3

Today, we walked down to Union Square. Our hotel is several blocks from there, but it is downhill the whole way.

At Union Square, we bought tickets for the Deluxe Sightseeing Hop-On Hop-Off Bus. We arrived in time to catch the bus that goes to the Golden Gate Bridge. We were sitting on the top level out in the open, and it was very cold. I thought it would warm up like it did the day before, but it didn’t. It was also very windy while going across the bridge.

The bus took us to the park just over the bridge and waited there for about twenty minutes before taking us back to Union Square. Once back at Union Square, we got on the bus that takes passengers on the downtown loop. We rode it over to Ghirardelli Square, which is down on the waterfront.

Ghirardelli Square had several different shops, all selling chocolate. Some were ice cream parlors, while others just sold Ghirardelli chocolates. We bought half a pound of assorted chocolate squares for $10.

After that, we went back to wait for the next bus to pick us up. We waited and waited, but it never came. After about 40 minutes, we decided to walk back to the main bus stop at Fisherman’s Wharf. The traffic was really bad because there was a football bowl game in town that night, and all the fans were there for the game.

We got back on the bus and were afraid to get off again, so we rode it back to Union Square. This time, we got on the Green Bus Line. It took us by Haight-Ashbury, near the Painted Ladies, past the Japanese Tea Garden, and back to Union Square. We did not get off the bus because it was the last bus of the day.
