A Rainy Day in Oban

This morning, I was going to take a shower before breakfast, but the hotel did not have any hot water. So, we ate breakfast and checked out of the hotel. It was another rainy day in Scotland.

We were driving to the Isle of Skye, but there were several places we wanted to stop along the way. Our first stop was Dunstaffnage Castle. This castle was built by Duncan MacDougall in the 1200s. It was captured by Robert the Bruce in 1309. Flora MacDonald was imprisoned here after helping Bonnie Prince Charlie escape Scotland. The three-story gatehouse was built in the 1500s.

Our next stop was the Castle Stalker View café and gift shop. This stop along the road provides a great view of Castle Stalker. The castle is located on a small island. They do offer tours that take visitors out to the castle, but most people simply stop here to admire it from a distance.

Next, we visited the Commando Memorial. This memorial honors the men of the Commandos who died during World War II. The Commandos were formed by Winston Churchill. They were an elite force trained to fight in different environments, and 1,700 Commandos lost their lives.

We then headed to our hotel located in Broadford on the Isle of Skye. By that time, it was still raining, and the weather had turned cold. We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant and called it a night.
