Today, Jay and I explored the Isle of Skye. We drove to the Neist Point Lighthouse.
If you have never driven in Scotland, they have what are called single-track roads. These are one-lane roads with traffic traveling in both directions. Every so often, there is a passing place where the road widens so one car can pull over and wait for the other vehicle to pass. They allow all sizes of vehicles on these roads, including vans and huge buses. Sometimes traffic gets backed up, and it becomes very difficult for cars to pass one another.
At one point, there were several cars waiting because they could not get past a van. The van decided to back up and ended up backing into me. I was already waiting in a passing place. I started to jump out of the car to yell at the driver. Jay was holding onto my arm, trying to keep me in the car because he knew I was angry. I still got out and yelled at the driver, but he denied hitting me. It did leave a small scratch on the car.
We eventually made it to the lighthouse, but it was so crowded that there was nowhere to park. We simply turned around and headed to Dunvegan Castle instead.
We toured the castle, which sits on the 42,000-acre MacLeod estate. The castle has been occupied by the same family for more than 800 years. After touring the castle, we headed to the Fairy Bridge and then on to Uig Tower.
Next, we traveled to An Corran Beach. This was also reached by a single-track road. This time, we encountered a bus trying to get through. The bus driver actually got out of the bus to direct traffic so the bus could pass.
After that, we went to Kilt Rock, where there was a very pretty waterfall. We then headed back to Broadford and stopped at a restaurant to eat before returning to our hotel.
