Day 4 – Saturday, May 11, 2024
Today we visited Tuzigoot National Monument. We took the 1/3-mile trail that loops around the Tuzigoot pueblo. This was a 110-room village built around 1,000 years ago. Along the trail, there were also beautiful views of the Verde River and Tavasci Marsh.
Next, we drove to Honanki Heritage Site. This site features well-preserved cliff dwellings and rock art. The Sinagua people once lived here, where they hunted deer and rabbits and also raised various crops.
Day 5 – Sunday, May 12, 2024
We drove to the Crane Petroglyph and Historic V Bar V Ranch. The Crane Petroglyph Site features more than 1,000 petroglyphs carved into the rocks by the Sinagua people over 600 years ago. The petroglyphs include animals, people, and geometric shapes.
The site was once part of the V Bar V Ranch, which was established in 1927. Today, the only remains of the ranch are a chimney and a garage.
Afterward, we drove to several different sites so Jay could do some hiking.
Day 6 – Monday, May 13, 2024
Today we drove to Grand Canyon National Park. It was about a 2-hour and 20-minute drive from Sedona. The first part of the drive was very scenic, as the road twisted and turned through the mountains.
We decided to enter the park through the East Entrance. There was no line to get in, and then we drove toward the South Entrance, stopping at various viewpoints along the way. The Grand Canyon is always breathtakingly beautiful.
After visiting the canyon, we drove back to Sedona. We stopped in Uptown Sedona to do some shopping and eat dinner before heading back to our condo.
